As the leaves turn to vivid shades of red and gold and November begins to peek around the corner, I’ve caught myself spiraling into my annual obsession: What’s going to be my A/W ’25 vibe?  What steps can I take now to lock things in before the year wraps up so I can step into the new year with an already established set of habits that pave the way for the inevitable “new year, new me” era?

Riding that random wave of motivation, I decided to fuel it further. On my commute the other day, I queued up an episode of WORKING HARD  with Grace Beverley, where she talked about her “Winter Arc” and how she was approaching it. That conversation instantly clicked. I found myself diving deeper into the idea, researching what the challenge really meant and how I could start my own version this November to get a head start before 2026 even begins.

My “Winter Arc” Challenge: Locking In Before 2026

So after a solid doom-scroll session on TikTok’s #WinterArc trend, I decided to finally jump on it. I know I’m a month late, but hey, better late than never, right? Honestly, I’m tired of being the person who’s always planning to start and never actually does. Case in point: this very blog. I’ve been thinking of writing for months, feeding myself a hundred excuses not to.

For those who haven’t come across it yet, Winter Arc as seen on TikTok is all about setting 10 rules for yourself and sticking to them through the colder, darker months October to December. Think of it as your personal discipline era: you create goals, commit to them, and come out on the other side as the most grounded, productive version of yourself. So, let’s do this together. Here’s how I’m “locking in” before the year ends.

Step 1: Create Your Winter Moodboard

No matter what your goals are or what your vibe is Step 1 is my favorite: drumroll please… the Moodboard. This isn’t just a Pinterest collage moment. Your moodboard helps you visualize who you want to become during your Winter Arc. It gives your intentions a visual anchor, something to come back to when motivation dips. Think of it as your personal highlight reel of energy, goals, and aesthetics that scream main character in her disciplined era.

Step 2: Pick Your Focus Categories

The second step is all about clarity. Choose two to four categories you want to lock in on this winter. For me, those are:

  • Fitness & Health

  • Career Growth

Once you’ve picked yours, get specific. Set clear rules or small actionable goals within each area. Maybe it’s “move my body 4x a week,” “read 10 pages a day,” or “wake up before 7 AM.”

Winter Arc isn’t meant to be easy but that’s kind of the point. We’re training ourselves to stay consistent even when the weather (and mood) says otherwise. Trust the process; discipline is the new dopamine.

Step 3: Design Your Environment for Success

Here’s where most people fall off and where I’m determined not to. No matter how strong your willpower is, your environment shapes your behavior more than motivation ever will.

If there’s one thing the book Atomic Habits taught me, it’s that habit formation is really just brain training. You’re teaching your brain to associate small actions with reward. So, design your surroundings to make good choices easy and bad ones harder.

For example, I’ve quit smoking, drinking, and partying and to stick with that, I’ve started distancing myself from social settings that trigger those habits. Likewise, if your goal is to drink more water, invest in that emotional support water bottle. Keep it on your desk, carry it everywhere, and even keep it by your bed. The more visible it is, the easier it becomes to follow through.

So that’s basically my plan. Simple, intentional, and (hopefully) sustainable. I’m not chasing perfection this season; I’m chasing consistency. I want to wake up in January already in motion, not waiting for motivation to strike, but running on the habits I’ve been building since November.

The beauty of the Winter Arc is that it’s not about reinventing yourself overnight. It’s about showing up for the version of you that already exists, the one who’s trying, learning, and refusing to give up just because it’s dark at 5 PM.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, lazy, or have had a “I’ll start next year” mindset like me, this is your sign to start now. Make your moodboard, set your rules, and let’s lock in together before the year ends.

And if you’re doing your own Winter Arc Challenge, share your goals or your favorite habits in the comments. I’d love to see what everyone’s working on and maybe even feature a few on the By the Moment's IG.

Here’s to cozy nights, soft discipline, and becoming that girl (or guy) who actually follows through this winter.
